4.5-5 stars. Really loved this book about a woman's journey and life struggle to put herself first instead of the needs or duty to others. Shayda Hijazi is a Persian woman who immigrated to Canada. She had to start from some very humble beginnings when she arrives, not to mention the cultural divide and learning to speak English fluently. Where she comes from, men often take on mistresses and Shayda has seen the aftermath of it firsthand. So Shayda approaches life with a sense of great responsibility and careful maneuvering because she cannot afford to lose what little she has. I really empathized with Shayda and how she constantly pushed down her yearnings and simply did what she was supposed to do out of obligation. She has a resilience about her that is quiet and graceful, so when she encounters someone who makes her heart beat faster and want more, her first instinct is to flee fast and far away.Troy Heathgate, on the other hand, is flirty, sexy, confident and the world is his playground at his fingertips. He doesn't have to want anything because he can get it, no problem. He goes after what he wants with no regrets or apologies. He's not a jerk, but he's definitely a playboy with a successful and booming business. I absolutely loved Troy, he is fantastic. He's intelligent, funny and charming, but he's also got a sensitivity about him that is magnificent. His patient with Shayda is infinite, so it's obvious that he's not after her for a fling only. He and Shayda see each other in a way that no one else does, and even though their encounters tend to be very brief, they are never insignificant. I loved his nicknames for her and how he showed his affection for her. Unfortunately for both of them, Shayda is married, but Troy will take whatever he can get of Shayda regardless. Seriously, Troy is amazing, and he pushes Shayda to be the real woman that she is and to go after her own happiness because as they discover, there are no guarantees in life and life is too short.
The way this story is written does not implicate any one person as the bad guy/girl and as far as relationships go, it is truly Troy and Shayda who belong together. That's not to say that I didn't like Hafez, Shayda's husband, because he's a good man, but their marriage isn't everything a marriage should be. There's some lingering baggage from the past that weighs them both down in the relationship and it's very sad. Yet I understood how they maintained such a strong devotion and mutual respect, despite the lack of passion and yearning. Shayda's life is really the focal point of this story, more so than Shayda and Troy's relationship, and it was fascinating because it spans three decades with all the highs and lows that come with the seasons, and Troy is still very integral in it. The writing and dialogue is fantastic. I've loved everything I've read by Leylah Attar.

53 Letters For My Lover edition by Leylah Attar Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Yeah I know I'm a little late to this amazing book party , but better late than never. What a way to end the year of reading with this beautiful , awe inspiring romance .
Leylah Attar is a master at creating a story about rich culture and endearing love , a love that can survive decades , a love that is full circle , a love so ment to be that it's written in the stars .
Shayda a young woman from Tehran, comes to live in Canada thru an arrange marriage. Both parties are only doing it for fami!y reasons so the marriage already has issues, but she is committed in all things she does and tries to make the best of the situation.
Not all situation are good and in one instance ( to say what would give too much away) she meets her future mentor Bob who helps her and takes her under his wings and makes her a part of his wonderful family. Side note there should be more Bob Worthington in this world.
Soon after she meets the love of her life Troy, the total opposite of everything she's known and boy does he show her all the things that she's been missing .
Troy successful and wanted by many but only wants her and any chance he had he showed her .I love how the author made each holiday one to remember, something significant can happen and it does so pay attention to the time line.
Definitely a classic .
This is another Leylah Attar book that has been sitting on my kindle for a while, now. Yes, I'm going to admit to purchasing it because of the cover. The reviews tell me everything I need to know - cheating/love triangle, two things I stay far, far away from.
So far, we're not even in the same country, on the same continent. I've had previous bad experiences with such books - I can only think one that didn't have that effect on me - so I steer clear of them. I mean, I find it perfectly normal to not read books that have things you dislike.
But yet again, Ms. Attar blew that straight up and shoved me out of my reading comfort zone. I blame her amazing writing style. I blame the way she knows how to pull you in and keep you wanting, needing more, interested and intrigued, rooting for the main characters. There's really no good guy and bad guy here. No hero/anti-hero. They all make mistakes but you can't help but forgive them and love them for them. You can't help but place yourself in their shoes and try seeing things through their eyes.
Shayda and Troy meet when they're both young. They're from different worlds and cultures. But Troy is mesmerized by her and only backs off when he sees her wedding ring. I can't tell you how much respect and brownie points that has earned him with me!
I'm pretty sure that's when I fell in love with him. Because, at first, we only see his playboy, womanizing side. But then we get glimpses from the past and, oh man, Ms. Attar knows how to gut you and gut you good.
Feels. So many feels, I can't even! This love story spans years and years and it gets put through the wringer really good, because why not? It hurts. Until the very last word.
These two have a lot to overcome and I loved the ending so much! *hearts in eyes*
Without further ado, my rating is 5 stars.
P.S. I really, really need and want a Troy of my own. Where can I find one?
