Nicolai Vetrov, or ‘Nico’, had been bullied through most of his years in school. Slight of build, fair-haired with blue-eyes, not to mention, of Russian descent, Nico was very shy. He was also a twenty-three year old virgin. Twenty-one year old Cai ‘Cam’ Huan kept to himself, worked as a web designer, and considered himself an introvert to the extreme. Both men were fascinated with the paranormal. Although Nico had been to one group outing in Dayton, he didn’t like it. The members seemed well-established and it made him feel like an outsider. When a new group appeared on the web- The O-Hell-O Paranormal Team, Nico gave his hobby another shot. He was online, reading the groups’ chatting, when he met Cam. They lived only a few miles apart so they connected immediately during an investigation. Two men, identical inside, opposite outside, realize they have more in common than their love of hunting ghosts. When you want answers to the mysteries of life, and death, sometimes you get caught up in what you’re truly looking for; love. And with the O-Hell-O Paranormal Team, both Nico and Cam find out, there’s something greater than seeking the answers after death; and that’s finding kindred ‘spirits’, who were alive.

I just couldn't get into the characters. They seemed bland and unexciting, not because they're shy (I love shy characters) but because they just couldn't hold my interest.
The author makes a big deal about the ghost hunting group investigating an "asylum". But when they get there, there are prison cells and the group talks about "crime not paying". As any ghost enthusiast knows, an asylum and a prison are two different things. Although there are plenty of both abandoned across America, asylums didn't have prison cells. They had patient rooms. Even though the patients were neglected and abused, most of them were not criminals. They were mentally or physically disabled, unwanted, or those suffering from tuberculosis, which in those days was always fatal.
G.A. Hauser apparently knows enough about ghost hunting to make several references to obvious, albeit unnamed ghost shows on TV. So why doesn't she know the difference between an asylum and a prison? Maybe I'm being picky, but it irritated me.

This is a brilliant, beautiful book about first love with a fun ghost story thrown in.

Nico is a shy, gay man who works for his father, lives near his family but is lonely and sad. He also has a fascination for the paranormal and joined a group of ghost hunters to explore them.

Cam is also a shy gay man. He works as a web designer and lives close to his family but is also lonely and sad. Cam joins the group of ghost hunters to both explore paranormal activities and also to force his introverted self to meet new people

Cam texts the group to see if anyone wants to go to a local cemetery during the day but since ghost hunting is usually done at night, only Nico accepts the invitation.

The two men hit it off immediately and through their mutual fascination for the paranormal and the fact that they are exactly alike, in every way; they fall in love.

Both men are from strict families, Nico being Russian American and Cam being Chinese American, neither can come out of the closet. When Nico's father discovers his homosexuality, he loses it and beats Nico up. But with the help of a living boyfriend, a great group of LGBTQ friendly fellow ghost hunters and some spirits who believe in love and justice, Nico and Cam discover their happily ever after.

I just closed a book that moved so slow and had so much conflict and angst that it felt like its title! So I was delighted to read a story where the conflict was resolved quickly and the love was able to shine through!
So not a usual G.A. HAUSER writing but damn sure worth the read. This woman hits it out of the park!!
GA Hauser, the Queen of the M/M erotic romance genre, wrote this excellent and entertaining book which is both a beautiful love story and a tale of the paranormal. Nico, a twenty three year old gay man is of Russian decent. He works as a plumber with his father and brother in the family plumbing business. He lives alone in a tiny apartment and since he is totally introverted, he is lonely and without friends. He finds a paranormal group on line and since he is interested in ghost hunting he joins it. It is a very small but welcoming group of men and women (nine in all) and includes Cam, a twenty one year old gay man of Chinese decent. They form a bond as soon as they meet because they have a lot in common, in that Cam is also very introverted and lonely. It also helps that they are both slender and good looking and gay. This delightful book then follows the group while they investigate an old asylum and later an abandoned theater, both of which have a reputation of being haunted. What they discover provides an excellent tale of suspense and surprise and the beginnings of a very deep romantic relationship. Altogether, this tale of romance and ghosts is very entertaining and should not be missed.
