Bought this because the summary made a passing comparison to my favorite rom-com. Not. Even. Close. While the plot is plausible, the characters are pseudo-dynamic and not really likeable. Eve is presented as self absorbe, dramatic (talk about high maintenance!) and superficial. She's supposed to be a music writer but never even discusses music. Based on her backstory, Eve's character could have been so much more. Ben at least has some depth and an obvious knowledge of architectural engineering. Their relationship isn't at all believable, although the connection they share in 9/11 was interesting. The overall storyline is uneven and lacks transitions, with added loose ends. I kept reading because I wanted to find something redeeming about this book but it's just pure millennial drivel.
A quick, smart read
Enjoyable story
This was an incredibly enjoyable book. Reviewers keep saying that Ms. Cohen is a "young Nora Ephron" but it's totally true and in the best way. The dialogue is quick and full of witty banter that feels so natural and effortless that as a reader you feel like you can jump into the conversation. Eve and Ben are very realistic characters and I found myself comparing them to friends in my own life and getting nostalgic for my now-hazy mid to late 20s. Beautifully written and a lot of fun. Bravo, Ms. Cohen!
I loved reading this book! It's funny, romantic, engaging and very well written. I have kids the same age as Eve & Ben so it's fun for me to read a love story which is millennial relevant. It takes you back to the good old days but with a modern twist. A must read for all ages!
Cute and funny beach read!
I liked the title of thw book, but as i movwd in, I struggled with how shallow the conversations between characters were, making it really hard to connect with them, as well as a lack of development in the charactera' stories.
